Redeemer is part of the Presbyterian Church in America (called the “PCA”), an evangelical denomination in the Reformed tradition. Our church is governed by a board of elders called the “Session”. The Session is made up of lay elders (called “ruling elders”) and pastors (called “teaching elders). Together these men make up the Session and lead the church collectively.
Our pastors have been ordained by the Heartland Presbytery of the PCA which is made up of 9 churches in Kansas and part of Missouri.
The elders are chosen by the members of the church based on the biblical qualifications given in Titus and 1 Timothy. The elders are the shepherds of the church. Redeemer currently has thirteen ruling elders and two teaching elders on the Session.
Deacons
Redeemer is part of the Presbyterian Church in America (called the “PCA), an evangelical denomination in the Reformed tradition. We recognize two biblically identified offices in the church- elder and deacon. The elders oversee the preaching and teaching of the Word of God, administration of the sacraments, and general spiritual care of the membership. The deacons, as per Acts 6, oversee the physical needs of the church. The deacons work diligently to be sure the elders have no material hinderances to ministering the Word of God to the flock. The deacons take care of the property and also are ministers of mercy to those who have special material needs within the body.
Redeemer currently has twelve deacons. They are organized into four different committees: Finance, Helps, Mercy, and Property.
