Sunday School Classes (Winter 2025)
The Communion of Saints
Taught by Elder Todd Phillips
Room 43 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
A look at what the church is and what it means to belong to it. When we state that we believe in “the Communion of Saints” in the Apostles’ Creed, we are recognizing that Christians have intimate fellowship with God and with one another through their union in Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit. As “saint” is a name for every Christian, this is just another name for the church — the body of Christ. Our experience of that fellowship is found in an individual congregation of the body — the local church. The local church is the heartbeat of the Christian’s life. The local church is where you invest in people and where people invest in you. The local church is God’s greatest means of growing you in grace and godliness. The local church is where you go to meet with God. As the Belgic Confession states, “no one ought to be separated from it”.
What Did You Expect?
Taught by Pastor Nathan Currey
Room 44 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
What Did You Expect?: Redeeming the Realities of Marriage is a DVD series with Dr. Paul Tripp addressing the inevitable struggles that emerge in every marriage. Tripp guides couples through a biblical examination of marriage, challenging them to move beyond romance and shared interests toward changed expectations, radical commitments, and gospel-centered grace. Through honest, practical teaching grounded in Scripture, couples will discover how to build marriages characterized by unity, understanding, and love that center on Jesus Christ.
Prayer and Psalm 51
Led by a rotation of Elders
Room 45 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
This quarter we will study two R.C. Sproul series: Prayer and Psalm 51. As Christians, we are given the privilege and responsibility of communicating with the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, yet many neglect this vital practice. Dr. Sproul demonstrates that intimate communication with God is at the heart of our relationship with Him. Through Christ, we are accepted by God and enabled to call upon Him as our Lord and Father. We then turn to Psalm 51, examining David’s sin and confession to see how God was merciful to David, restoring the joy of his salvation. Through both studies, we will address our need to recognize sin, repent, and trust in God’s mercy—acknowledging that He is Judge of all people and shows mercy to the repentant.
I Kings
Taught by Elder Bruce Hoffman
Room 46 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
David, Solomon, Elijah: the story told in 1 Kings is populated with great heroes of Israel—men of courage and charisma with many frailties and a constant need for grace. This story also has a full share of villains: Adonijah, Shimei, Jeroboam, Ahab. Most of all, though, 1 Kings is the story of Israel’s God, who never fails to love his people or to keep them under his kingly care, even when they choose to follow the pathways of folly and idolatry. Through all of the study we will endeavor to faithfully consider all characters, events, regulations, and institutions in light that all are pointing us to Christ and his Gospel.
