Pastor’s Corner October 2004
The following was published in our monthly newsletter, the Redeemer Report.
The fourth question and answer of our shorter catechism tackles a complex question with wonderful biblical accuracy:
What is God? God is a Spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable, in his being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth.
We have the privilege of welcoming Dr. Robert Reymond to our church in order to teach on the content of this question as the subject of our 2004 Theology Conference entitled “Behold Your God!”. Dr. Reymond is a scholar with a heart for the people of God. I am sure that all who attend will grow in their appreciation for God as he unpacks this question and answer biblically over the course of 7 addresses. I encourage you to attend as many of the addresses as possible, it’s a rare treat to have someone of Dr. Reymond’s gifting in such an intimate setting.
It is true, the content of the addresses will be deep and sometimes complex. However this is what makes knowing God an exciting, life-long endeavor. At one time the study of God (theology) was considered the “queen” of the sciences. It was rightly understood that a correct knowledge of God made all other learning possible. Oh for the return of such thinking! The words of Christian philosopher, Gordon Clark, should challenge each of us to take advantage of such a conference:
“God has given us a verbal revelation; we are obligated to study it. No further exhortation is necessary. No doubt many of those who decry logic and information are personally Christians; however their publications, preaching, and conversation are not Christian. Nor are they logically consistent in repudiating Biblical dogma, because Christianity minus intelligible doctrine is simply unintelligible doctrine minus Christianity.”
In the Lamb,
Pastor Tony Felich
