Joyless. Severe. Fanatical. “Haunted by the fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.” That’s the Puritan reputation. But to what extent is that reputation deserved? Drawing on the latest research and featuring interviews with some of the most celebrated scholars in the field, this beautiful and atmospheric new documentary takes us from the birth of Puritanism all the way through to its influence in the present day.
I Timothy
Led by Deacon Todd Phillips
Room 45 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
We will be studying the first letter to Timothy, the first of three “pastoral” letters (1 & 2 Timothy and Titus) sent by Paul towards the end of his life. Timothy, a young man who Paul considers a spiritual son and whose weaknesses make him relatable, was ministering to the church of Ephesus in Paul’s absence. Written to encourage and direct Timothy, this letter contains necessary instruction for all believers, not just pastors, about the life of the local church that will strengthen the body and safeguard the truth of the Gospel.
Book Study: Strange New World
Led by Elder Lance Kinzer
Room 46 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
Strange New World: How Thinkers and Activists Redefined Identity and Sparked the Sexual Revolution. Following up on Dr. Trueman’s visit to Redeemer last October, this class will provide an opportunity to dive deeper into his analysis of contemporary confusion regarding identity and the self. We’ll give particular focus to his advice to the Church on how to live faithfully as “Strangers in This Strange New World.”
