Tell the Truth
Led by Elder Mike Dykstra
Room 43 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
Do you find sharing the gospel with others a challenge? Many do. In this study, we will look with Will Metzger at what the Bible teaches regarding sharing the gospel of Christ with others. The goal of this study is to encourage and challenge each other to be faithful in personal evangelism. Our book is – Tell the Truth: The Whole Gospel Wholly By Grace Communicated Truthfully and Lovingly by Will Metzger.
A Survey of the Minor Prophets
Led by Elder Ben Vos
Room 44 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
Why study the Minor Prophets? This is a good question. One answer is that “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). But given the whole of Scripture, why study the Minor Prophets? In his commentary on the Minor Prophets, Pastor James Boice gives an excellent answer. Boice states “they dramatize the character of God as few other books do.” They clearly and powerfully emphasize three basic attributes of God: His sovereignty, His holiness, and His love. Boice states further “We need these emphases today. We need them as individuals, for we sin and run away from God just as Israel did. We need them as a nation also, for God will not deal with America any differently in regard to its sin than he dealt with the nations of antiquity. We need to learn – deeply and in a way that changes us – that righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people. (Proverbs 14:34)”
The Holiness of God & Chosen by God
Led by a rotation of Elders
Room 45 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
The Holiness of God examines the meaning of holiness and why people are both fascinated and terrified by a holy God. This series closely explores God’s character, leading to new insights on sin, justice, and grace. The result is a new awareness of our dependence upon God’s mercy and a discovery of the awesomeness of His majestic holiness. Dr. R.C. Sproul says, “The holiness of God affects every aspect of our lives–economics, politics, athletics, romance–everything with which we are involved.”
Chosen by God: Many people reject Reformed theology or Calvinism because they believe it teaches that God drags people kicking and screaming into the church against their will. This, however, is a gross distortion of the biblical doctrine of election, which is grounded in God’s love for His people. In this series, Dr. Sproul carefully explains the meaning of God’s sovereignty in the work of redemption and shows how it relates to the will of man.
The Doctrine of Salvation
Led by Pastor Tony Felich
Room 46 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
“Ordo salutis” is a Latin term which means “the order of salvation”. It speaks of a way of organizing all the events and realities in the process of salvation, in the order that they show up in an individual’s life. The Apostle Paul provides a brief but powerful overview of the “order salutis”-
Romans 8:29–30 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
“God is not the author of confusion and therefore he is the author of order. There are good and conclusive reasons for thinking that the various actions of the application of redemption take place in a certain order, and that order has been established by divine appointment, wisdom, and grace” (John Murray, Redemption: Accomplished and Applied).
This class will overview each part of the process of salvation as described by the Bible: Election, Effectual Calling, Unit with Christ, Regeneration, Faith and Repentance, Justification, Adoption, Sanctification, Perseverance, and Glorification.
