COURSE OBJECTIVE: To equip and enable students to understand and critique the various models of counseling and to present a thoroughly biblical and gospel-centered model of helping people change.  To prepare counselors to guide people through change in various relationships and with various issues that are commonly faced while counseling the Word.

Adams, Jay. Competent to Counsel

Adams, Jay. Christian Counselors Manual

Tripp, Paul David. Instruments in the Redeemer’s Hands

Berkhof, Louis. Systematic Theology-pages 19-108,126-138, 165-176, 181-261, 305-329, 367-393, 454-549, 593-614  **Can be completed in Fall or Spring semester

ASSIGNMENTS: (20% of final grade)

For each of the assigned books write a 1-2 page paper interacting with the material presented by the author.  Don’t simply summarize the contents, but give me your reactions and how the material has changed you or can be useful in counseling.

EXAMS: (80% of final grade)

A Midterm Exam and Final will be the major portion of your grade.

COUNSELING OBSERVATION:

Videos for counseling observation will be watched and discussed in class.

*Cancellations due to weather will be made by 3 pm the day of class and you will be informed by e-mail.
