Advent/Christmas 2022 at Redeemer!

11/26/22

Dear Redeemer Family and Friends,

Tomorrow is the first week of the 2022 Advent season. Be sure to come tomorrow night (6pm) for the “Hanging of the Greens” and chili supper at 6pm.

This year for Advent, in addition to our customary singing of the many beloved hymns of the season, I will bring a sermon series on the “True Gifts of Christmas”.  Posted below is the list of hymns, candle themes, and sermon topics for the four weeks of Advent. There you will see the approach of the sermon series.

Jesus Christ is the gift of Advent/Christmas and he brings manifold blessings to us. For this sermon series, I will focus on four of the gifts we receive from Christ and His coming.

First, in Christ, we receive the forgiveness of sins. Forgiveness is gift #1 that we receive through Christ. Really, it’s the most important gift to us.

Second, in Christ, we receive adoption as the children of God. Not only have we received a legal pardon for our sins, but we have also been grafted into God’s family and He treats us as His own children because of Jesus. The gift of adoption gives us a real sense of belonging and closeness to God.

Third, in Christ we receive the gift of true riches. Modern Christmas celebrations can focus too much on material stuff. This should not distract Christians from knowing and appreciating the incredible spiritual wealth we have in Christ. The riches of Christ are the greatest riches in the universe.

Fourth, in Christ we receive true light. God has shed His light through Christ so we can know who we are, why we are here, and what God has for us to do. We gain the light of purpose through Christ’s coming. We have been given the gift of light through Christ, who is the Light.

Four gifts over four weeks-
11/27 The Gift of Forgiveness
12/4 The Gift of Adoption
12/11 The Gift of Riches
12/18 The Gift of Light

Also, in addition to some special events for Home Fellowship Groups, youth group, and our women’s ministry, the entire church is invited to a Christmas Concert by Nathan Clark George and family on 12/11 at 6pm.  The following week (12/18) everyone can return to watch our children perform this year’s Christmas Nativity pageant.

We will have two candlelight services on Christmas Eve (12/24) at 5pm and 7pm.

May God bless you and yours during this 2022 Advent season!

In the Lamb,
Pastor Tony Felich
