Winter Sunday School Classes (Winter 2022)
Trusting God
Led by Elder Mike Preston
Room 43 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
Trusting God can become a platitude that sounds obvious, but putting into practice can be challenging. We don’t think of trust as a process or something that we build and learn, we tend to view it as something we should just have in full measure. But trusting God is built on faith, relationship, and experience (refer to Abraham in our current Genesis study), it’s an attribute of a relationship that evolves as that relationship progresses and we come to know the other party in the relationship better. Jerry Bridges book evolved out of a time in his life when his trust in God was challenged and he searched the scriptures deeply to understand what it really means to trust God. He focuses on 3 main areas that we’ll explore together, God’s sovereignty, God’s goodness, and God’s providence.
The Assurance of Salvation & Calvinism and the Christian
Facilitated by a rotation of Elders
Room 44 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
The Assurance of Salvation by RC Sproul
In this series, Dr. R.C. Sproul addresses the importance of living in pursuit of holiness over against “easy believism.” He explores the doctrine of assurance as he helps to explain the relationship between the Christian life and the work of Christ Jesus on our behalf.
Calvinism and the Christian Life by Ian Hamilton
It is impossible to encounter God’s saving grace and not be powerfully and permanently changed. John Calvin knew this. In this 6-part teaching series, Pastor Ian Hamilton demonstrates that Calvinism is biblical, God-centered Christianity with important implications for our daily lives. This theology is not simply academic. It is a theology for all of life – a theology in which the grace of Jesus Christ shapes everything.
Ephesians
Led by Elder Joel Thomas
Room 45 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
If Romans is, humanly speaking, the most impressive of Paul’s letters, then Ephesians is probably the most elegant. From its opening doxology, we read of the blessings that are ours in Christ. In its closing verses we see Christians, fully clad in the armor of spiritual warfare standing ready for battle. From beginning to end Ephesians sets before us the wonder of God’s grace, the privilege of belonging to the church, and the pattern of life transformation the gospel produces.
Covenant Theology
Led by Pastor Tony
Room 46 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
Many Christians have only a fuzzy understanding of the over-arching message of the Bible. Covenant Theology helps us understand key Scriptural themes that reveal the general flow of the unfolding story of God’s gracious redemption through Christ. The Bible is a unified story of God’s Work and Jesus Christ is the hero from beginning to end. This class will provide an overview of the covenantal structure of the Bible.
