God at Work: Your Christian Vocation in all of Life
Taught by Derek Anderson
Room 43 of the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
If you’re not a pastor or missionary, do you have a “higher calling” from God? In this very readable book, culture expert Gene Veith walks through the biblical, Reformation teaching about the doctrine of vocation. Every Christian has many vocations (callings) from God: in our families, at work, at church, in our neighborhood, you name it. When we realize that the “mundane” activities that consume most of our time are “God’s hiding places,” our perspective changes. The doctrine of vocation–“doing everything for God’s glory” is actually the key to Christian ethics, influencing our culture for Christ, and knowing how God is present in our daily lives.
Learning to Love the Psalms
Taught by Elder Glenn Timmons and Bob Albright
Room 44 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
The Psalms are undeniably beautiful. They are also difficult, and readers often come away convinced that tremendous riches remain just beyond their grasp. In this book, Dr. W. Robert Godfrey invites us to journey with him towards a greater understanding and love for these sacred verses. The timeless elegance of the Psalms, their depth of expression, and testimony to the greatness of God have enchanted and edified God’s people for centuries. Learning to Love the Psalms is intended to help today’s Christians share in that delight.
Parenting, book study
Pastor Nathan Currey
Room 45 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
In the midst of folding laundry, coordinating carpool schedules, and breaking up fights, many parents get lost. Feeling pressure to do everything “right” and raise up “good” children, it’s easy to lose sight of our ultimate purpose as parents in the quest for practical tips and guaranteed formulas.
In this life-giving book, Paul Tripp offers parents much more than a to-do list. Instead, he presents us with a big-picture view of God’s plan for us as parents. Outlining fourteen foundational principles centered on the gospel, he shows that we need more than the latest parenting strategy or list of techniques. Rather, we need the rescuing grace of God—grace that has the power to shape how we view everything we do as parents.
Freed from the burden of trying to manufacture life-change in our children’s hearts, we can embrace a grand perspective of parenting overflowing with vision, purpose, and joy.
The Book of Judges
Taught by Elder Ben Vos
Room 46 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
The Book of Judges has many well known “heroes” like Samson, Gideon, Deborah and Barak, but a full reading of this book can leave us disheartened and confused. Why does God include in holy scripture such stories of dysfunctional and disobedient people that engage in often violent acts? It is not for our entertainment like a bad reality TV show, but is of course for our spiritual enrichment. It teaches us again the gospel message of a merciful God that rescues an undeserving people. It teaches us to resist today’s culture of spiritual pluralism where everyone does what is “right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25). And it teaches us the only true hero is our Savior Jesus Christ.
Meet the Pastor
Taught by Pastor Tony
Room 47 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
The first six weeks of the quarter, Pastor Tony introduces visitors and regular attendees to Redeemer, covering topics such as the history, leadership, theology, and ministries of Redeemer.
