The Sovereignty of God, Book Study
Elder Scott Creecy
Room 43 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
Who is regulating affairs on this earth today-God, or the Devil? That God reigns supreme in Heaven, is generally conceded; that He does so over this world, is almost universally denied-if not directly, then indirectly. More and more are men in their philosophizing and theorizing, relegating God to the background. Take the material realm. Not only is it denied that God created everything, by personal and direct action, but few believe that He has any immediate concern in regulating the works of His own hands. Everything is supposed to be ordered according to the (impersonal and abstract) “laws of Nature”. Thus is the Creator banished from His own creation. Therefore we need not be surprised that men, in their degrading conceptions, exclude Him from the realm of human affairs.
Let the Nations Be Glad, Book Study
Nathan Currey, assisted by Jeremy Swygard
Room 44 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
This book draws on key biblical texts to demonstrate that worship is the ultimate goal of the church and that proper worship fuels missionary outreach. John Piper offers a biblical defense of God’s supremacy in all things, providing readers with a sound theological foundation for missions. He examines whether Jesus is the only way to salvation and issues a passionate plea for God-centeredness in the missionary enterprise, seeking to define the scope of the task and the means for reaching “all nations.” The book is essential reading for those involved in or preparing for missions work. It also offers enlightenment for college and seminary students, pastors, youth workers, campus ministers, and all who want to connect their labors to God’s global purposes.
The Book of Zechariah
Elder Bruce Hoffman
Room 45 in the Lower Level of the Sanctuary
Zechariah is one of the most messianic books in the Bible, with it being second only to Isaiah in the breadth of the prophet’s writings about the Christ. It is also one of the most devotional of the prophetic books, dwelling more completely on the person and work of Christ than any other of the prophetic writings.
Zechariah addresses a people who were discouraged and in need of renewal, the community that had returned to Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile and was charged with rebuilding the temple and city. In order to encourage his children, the Lord looks beyond the people’s immediate circumstances, whether in Zechariah’s time or today, to when all God’s enemies will be vanquished, all his purposes fulfilled and the whole earth will acknowledge his rightful rule as King.
Come explore this book of promise and hope.
