Monthly Sermon Series: 2 Samuel: Shepherd King
Pastor Nathan’s current expositional sermon series is from the Book of 2 Samuel: Shepherd King.
From Pastor Nathan:
Ralph Davis writes in the preface to his commentary on Second Samuel: “2 Samuel is not about David…when someone says to me ‘Oh, I just love anything about David.’ I understand and yet I cringe. The church seemingly cannot divorce herself from this People magazine approach to biblical narrative. Again and again as we read 2 Samuel we have to shake ourselves and say, ‘This is not about David; it is not even about covenant kings; it is about a covenant God who makes promises to a covenant king through whom he will preserve his covenant people.’
Our approach to 2 Samuel and the account of this shepherd turned king is to see the plan and purpose of God’s redemption which will culminate in the coming of the true and perfect Shepherd King who is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Root of David and yet the Lamb of God. The Mighty Lion is the Lamb who was slain. The only one who is worthy of our study and our adoration.
